The pizaz of piracy.

July 31st, 2009

It always amazes me how much work goes into cracks. Take for instance the windows7loader.

Not only is it timely, it’s a thing of beauty.

This is not just something extra some of these crackers do, they all do this. You can’t find a patch that doesn’t play music. Most of it synth or computer generated. Some even throw in old video game music.

This isn’t just a competition of looks or sounds. They do all of this work efficiently, using small files. Mere kilobytes!

An anonymous hacker had this to say ” it is a competition all the way around best hack, fastest hack, best UI, best music, smallest crack application size”  he finished with “everything is about rep”

It is an interesting world in which we live. People are acting out creatively for no profit. This is truly an art form

Office 2010 Leaked!

“Office 2010 build 14.0.4302.1000 has leaked into the wild, so it looks like there’s more happening today than just build 7600 of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. Office 2010 will be available in 32-bit and 64-bit (possibly on one DVD); both flavors have been leaked.”

Wii homebrew moves by leaps and bounds USB HDD backup and play

May 25th, 2009

It’s something I haven’t posted about but I love my Wii. I pay for the games but want to maintain them in pristine condition yet still play them.

This helps immensely.

http://www.mikeandheth.com/games/97-connect-wii-usb-hard-drive.html

Basically a way has been made for you to backup your discs to a USB HDD, and you can play directly from there. I’m some of you naughty pirates out there are excited too. But as always, if you don’t buy games they will stop making them. And all our good systems will go the way of the dreamcast.

So excited….

Hp becoming ugly.

May 21st, 2009

I was working with a client, we moved their entire office, 15 computers from one office to another over the course of a weekend. Many trades and upgrades were made. Everything seemed to be going well.

Until today.
hp-2015d

The hp 2015dn is a nice laserjet, relatively low cost and high PPM ratio. Which is what I look for in a printer for a client.

Today I went out to fix the printer. Downloaded the PCL5 driver from HP’s website. computer is a windows XP machine. Upon install using the setup.exe that comes with the PCL5 download I keep getting prompted for xml’s, and cab files that aren’t there. I tried PCL6, Universal print drivers, and some editing. No dice. I googled and tried many solutions. No success.

If you care here is the link for searching:

http://www.google.com/search?q=hp2015dn+&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

I ended up using the BIG install 200mb. Which is a bear to use. It also installs a lot of crap. That worked.

Thank you HP for making life easier.
If only I had downloaded the giant file sooner.
